Nobles of Oleika, we must re-dedicate ourselves to our Shrine Center. We could be on the same pathway others are taking. Given our economy, locally and nationally, we must now assert our God given’s abilities and do what is right for our Temple.
Let’s look at the good things concerning our Temple. We enjoy a beautiful facility, second to none in Kentucky. The opportunity for use is limited to our own expectations. The Temple staff does a great job renting out our building, but we could do more. We could become more active with other social and community based activities which would bring more attention to ourselves and our needs for the children.
Our kitchen is finally being used. We have overlooked the potential of this section of our facility for many years. We can utilize this area for a greater social and economical gain for immediate and long term goals.
The Nobility of our Temple, our greatest asset, is overlooked. We have failed to harness this powerful tool. Other fraternal organizations have exploited this resource and so must we. The well being of our fraternity is in our hands. We must be more visible on the streets of our own towns. Sure everybody (hardly) knows me in my hometown; how about you? We must make ourselves more visible. Recently our local Shrine Unit feed the National Guard for Christmas and I was asked “WHY”. Everyone around me was stunned; I could not believe that a motive was needed. I explain this to the lady and she was still stunned. I finally told her, we were Patriots.
Our leaders of Oleika have shown very promising signs. The resourcefulness and planning skills have just begun to be tapped. The elected Chief Rabban has already showed a remarkable insight into our problems. The elected High Priest and Prophet have already showed a dedication to our cause, yet to be matched. Other officers will follow, I have the faith. Our Potentate has the necessary skills and the officers surrounding him to lead us into the future with great aspirations. The Potentate can not achieve this by himself!
We need not just to follow them, we need to help them. This is still our fraternity and we must take control. Our destiny needs not to be determined by others. It will, and must be determined by ourselves. This I pledge, we will make Oleika better. This is an absolute.
